For those of you who haven’t had the privilege of working with Dr. Pfau, here’s a teaser on what he brings to the table. I had the opportunity to take one of his many courses, and I can tell you it will greatly improve your public speaking and presentation IQ! I was very impressed at how actionable, understandable and relevant his techniques are. He was kind enough to take the time to answer a few questions for our readers here at Podium Pro.

Here are the questions I asked him:
Podium Pro: What do you see experienced public speakers doing to this day that surprises you the most?
Dr. Pfau Response: They have a tendency to read their speeches, rather than deliver the presentation from a conceptual outline. If you read your speech, you destroy 90% of your effectiveness. They also forget that there can be “death through PowerPoint. They violate the “10-20-30 Rule for PowerPoint Presentations:”
–No more than 10 slides;
–Speak no longer than 20 minutes; and
–Use no less than 30-Point font size.
Podium Pro: If you’re coaching someone on giving their best three-minute “elevator pitch”, whether it be for business or another endeavor, what are the main points they need to focus on?
Dr. Pfau Response: The key to an elevator speech is to be upbeat, energetic, enthusiastic, and have a can-do spirit within your delivery.
Podium Pro: What are your top 3 or 4 coaching points that we need to focus on when speaking in front of a crowd?
Dr. Pfau Response: The key is to talk to one person, not try to scan the entire crowd. Hold your eye contact from three to five seconds and then go to another person in a different segment of the crowd. Remember, if you try to talk to everybody, you talk to nobody. Also, in front of a large crowd, you have to use larger gestures and greater vocal variations (e.g., pitch, pace and power).
Dr. Pfau’s Business:
